Biopuncture

What is Biopuncture?

Biopuncture is a therapy whereby specific locations are injected with biological products. The majority of the products are derived from plants. Most of these injections are given into the skin or into muscles.

What kinds of products are being injected?

Products commonly used in Biopuncture are, for example, arnica, echinacea, nux vomica and chamomile. Arnica is used for muscle pain, nux vomica is injected for digestive problems, echinacea is used to increase the natural defense system of the body. Biopuncturists always inject cocktails of natural products. Lymphomyosot is used for lymphatic drainage, Traumeel for inflammations and sports injuries, Spascupreel for muscular cramps.

Are these products safe for me?

Yes, because the ampoules do not contain high concentrations of active substances. They usually contain diluted products. As a result, toxic side effects are very unlikely. Additionally, the ampoules used in Biopuncture are manufactured by companies that guarantee the production quality of their products. Most of the ampoules used for injection are made in Germany and are held to very strict quality control regulations. Clinical studies on thousands of patients have confirmed the safety of ampoules such as Traumeel.

But how does Biopuncture work to help me with my pain or inflammations?

In conventional medicine, the drug you take suppresses your symptoms immediately. That is why you need to take high doses of chemical substances in order to suppress, for example, pain or inflammation. And usually it works immediately. But as soon as the medication stops working, you have to take another pill to “kill the pain” again.
However, in Biopuncture small doses of products are injected in order to stimulate the natural healing processes. These ultra-low doses “wake up” mechanisms which are already available but inhibited. So, the healing effect comes from “inside” your body -- not from the products themselves. It’s the reaction of your immune system and nervous system which will produce the proper reactions to regain natural healing. The reaction of your body may be, for example, better local blood circulation, tissue repair, relaxation of muscles or local detoxification. During the reparation of tissue, your body is even more vulnerable and it is a good idea at this stage not to overuse the part which is treated because it is still in the process of repair.

When should I consider Biopuncture?

Neck pain and back pain respond well to Biopuncture, but one can also treat ankle sprains, pain in the shoulder and Achilles tendonitis using these natural injections. Biopuncture is also very successful in treating tennis elbow and golf elbow, osteoarthritis and sports injuries. We also treat you for migraine, tension headache, sciatica, and so on.

What is your experience with Biopuncture at Back to Health Chiropractic and Wellness?

Dr. Schatzle uses Biopuncture mostly for pain conditions. He has treated numerous cases of chronic low back and neck pain and acute conditions like motor vehicle sprains and strains to the neck and back. One example is an eighty five year old women who complained of constant low back and hand pain related to osteoarthritis. She experienced severe daily morning stiffness and joint pain in the lower spine and both hands. She had had this for many years and nothing she had tried had helped. The pain would improve somewhat a few hours after awakening and then return in the evening. It would be worse again the following morning. Her treatment began with chiropractic adjustments at a twice/ week schedule. After 3 weeks her main complaint of low back pain had improved but the hand pain was the same. The patient was then started on a course of Biopuncture on a once/ week basis and continued to receive chiropractic adjustments once/ week as well. This continued for eight weeks. The Biopuncture treatments consisted of injections under the skin and in the muscles of the low back and legs. The remedies used were Zeel and Discus Compositum which help the body to address abnormal joint function. At the end of the eight visits the patient was pain free and no longer experiences chronic daily low back and hand arthritis pain. That was over six months ago and she continues to be pain free. The interesting observation is that the hands were never injected and yet the symptoms in that area resolved after the low back and leg injections.
